Yesterday, I was watching a YouTube clip of Jordan Peterson, a clinical psychologist, being interviewed about his latest book ‘12 Rules of Life: An Antidote to Chaos’. The title grabbed my attention. There is something so incredibly enticing about being given a simple rulebook.

It’s rather like following a recipe: miraculously the possibility of producing a beautiful meal becomes child’s play. All I need to do is follow a few simple steps and I too can bake like Mary Berry. And yet, regardless of my efforts (undoubtedly questionable) no recipe ever turns out exactly the same.

The frightening truth is that life is chaotic. There is no antidote. We cannot control life. We can, however, master ourselves. It’s not easy or simple. And we know for sure, none of us turn out the same.
