On the back of my business card is the famous George Bernard Shaw quote ‘The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place’. I am marvelling at how many times in this week alone I have encountered enormous frustration that arises when we think we have communicated.

From the boss who has repeatedly given the same feedback and observed no change.

From the executive pitching a complex idea leaving the potential client meeting without a win.

From the person who is communicating volumes without even noticing.
Perhaps the single biggest problem with communication is the word itself. Maybe we all need to focus less on communication and more on interaction? When we are interacting, both the speaker and the listener are responsible for understanding each other.
