Bloviating.

I stumbled over this word in a book and was deeply rewarded when I looked it up. For those of us who need to know, it means: talk at length, especially in an inflated or empty way.

An unusual and delightful example of onomatopoeia. And a behaviour that is pervasive in life, not just the corporate world.
Practical application (the possibilities are obviously endless):

• Please prepare for tomorrow’s meeting to avoid bloviating.
• There seems to be a lot of bloviating going on here. Please help me understand what is important?
• I need to leave the office before midnight, can I respectfully ask we avoid bloviating please?
  Or just:
• Bloviating is not tolerated at our company.

As we know, being succinct is a courtesy. I often recommend clients try to speak or write in fewer words. Go for one word instead of three. Bloviating is one to have in your back pocket!
