I came across this famous quote by the Persian poet Hafiz: ‘The words we speak become the house we live in’. It chimed beautifully with a common theme amongst my coaching clients: catastrophising.

Catastrophising is the habit of an untamed mind. It is when we fantasise the worst case scenario and usually, run it on repeat in our head or out loud like a favourite radio play on repeat. And it is an excellent strategy for causing misery, despair and fear. If that is the house you want to live in, I’d rather not be your guest.
