So most of us know that our brain is hard wired to keep us safe and that is why it is constantly looking for threat. Loosely translated that means we might hear it saying:

  • You are not smart enough
  • You will look stupid if you say that
  • You are going to fail

And the great thing is, if we believe our thoughts, it can keep us very safe:

  • If I’m not smart enough, I’ll work harder
  • If I don’t say it, I can’t look stupid
  • If I don’t do anything differently, I cannot fail

But sometimes staying safe keeps us at best comfortable and at worst pretty average. Instead of using our brain’s thoughts as facts why not use them as safety checks. Check:

  • Have I done enough? Check.
  • Do I want to be part of the conversation? Check.
  • What if I succeed? Eek!
