Have you ever embarrassed yourself or felt completely mortified? I sometimes marvel at how public my most embarrassing moments have been. I suspect that falling off the stage at my drama school graduation was probably peak cringe but that was nearly 25yrs ago. But just last week, I felt the familiar prickly heat creeping under my skin as I’d managed to publicly embarrass myself….again.

Having recently joined a choir, I’d just launched into the opening line of a new number but totally failed to notice I was singing a 3rd above my fellow sopranos until a good 8 bars in! Oh how everyone laughed. Kindly, the choir master said he’d much rather we sing strong and wrong.

A rather fabulous mantra for our lives methinks. And it made me realise that frankly, I’ve not really been trying lately. I can’t remember the last time I embarrassed myself or felt hugely uncomfortable. And as the cliched hallmark greeting cards say: ‘A comfort zone is a beautiful place, but nothing ever grows there’.

So in case you need a dose of courage today, remember be strong. Being wrong is entirely optional.
