So I am currently obsessing over Simon Squibb’s book: ‘What’s your dream?’ I love how he applies the ‘non playable character’ in gaming to the ways in which many of us believe we are trapped, stuck or powerless in our work and lives. (The non playable character is a character in a video game that is not controlled by the player.)

Most of us will not have experienced the early years adversity of Squibb (losing his father to a heart attack at 15yrs, dropping out of school and becoming homeless) nor the meteoric rise as a multi-millionaire entrepreneur, investor and now best-selling author. As he recognises, it was precisely his adversity that fuelled his remarkable drive, determination and resilience.

The key here is to find our fuel. Whether its pain or passion, when we have a full tank we are energised and become unstoppable. We find solutions, we adapt, we pivot and we find ways to succeed.

In case you needed reminding today, we are all playable characters. Find your Fuel. And Carpe Diem!
