Last Sunday I completed a duathlon.

For some people that may not sound remarkable. But for me it was a genuine shove out of my comfort zone.

It wasn’t that I was unfit. I go to the gym regularly and would describe myself as reasonably active. But this required something different, a decision about whether I was willing to push myself.

If I’m honest, I signed up partly because I was feeling pretty unmotivated by my exercise regime.

And it made me think how often the same thing happens at work.

Many successful professionals are highly capable and disciplined. Often they can do their job standing on their head. It’s so easy to slip into routine.

We show up.
We do the work.
We perform well.

Yet growth rarely happens on autopilot.

Sometimes you have to deliberately choose the uncomfortable thing. Not because you have to — but because it reminds you what you’re capable of.

What would get your heart racing today?
